What is the difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist?

Psychiatrists are medical doctors who have a specialization in psychiatry and therefore a large part of their treatment regimen involves prescribing medication.

 

An appointment with a psychologist does not require a referral from a physician. However, to see a psychiatrist a referral is needed.

 

 

Are psychologists’ fees covered by insurance?

Some Blue Cross Insurance plans and most extended health benefit plans provide partial coverage for fees paid for session with a psychologist. It is recommended you contact your insurance company to determine the coverage that they provide.

 

 

What is the policy regarding confidentiality?

Confidentiality is valued and respected as it plays a vital role in the relationship between the client and the psyhologist. A high level of confidentiality is maintained in accordance with legal and ethical requirements. There are specific situations in which there are limitations to confidentiality which will be discussed with you in your first session. Any questions you might have regarding confidentiality can be discussed with your psychologist.

 

 

How long is each appointment?

 

Each appointment is 50 minutes long which allows 10 minutes for the psychologist to attend to the file.
